Overhand knotThe simplest knot and the base of many others. Use it as a stopper at the end of a rope.
Figure-eight knotA bulkier stopper than the overhand, and easier to untie. The extra turn is what makes the figure eight.
BowlineA fixed loop at the end of a rope that will not slip or jam, and unties easily after a load.
Clove hitch – rope endTies a rope to a rail or post quickly. Easy to adjust, but it can slip when the load turns the rail.
Zeppelin bendJoins two ropes securely. It holds under heavy load and still unties easily afterwards.
